“My experience with NILs has been fantastic, I've had the opportunity to learn a wide range of skills from both my supervisor and colleagues, which has been invaluable. One thing I appreciate is how they've encouraged me to stand up for myself and emphasized the importance of self-care and boundaries, which I know will be crucial in my future as a social worker. I feel fortunate to have been placed here for my first placement, and I truly believe it has contributed greatly to my study.”

 “Volunteering for OCP has been a fulfilling experience, the team at Port Kembla have been the most encouraging and supportive people I could hope to work alongside. I have learned and obtained many skills and lessons I’ll take with me into the work force and practice in life. I’ve had the opportunity to assist in multiple different projects and departments in the office that I wouldn’t be able to obtain elsewhere in one place and for that I am grateful for the team at OCP for letting me have this opportunity.”

I have been a volunteer at Port Kembla Community Centre, in the NILS Program for 18 years. Volunteering gives me such joy; it allows me to build on the skills I gained in working in community health and welfare for 35 plus years and to learn new skills. My passion stems mainly from my love of helping others and making a difference to their lives no matter how small. It can be as simple as taking time to listen, be present for others in need and doing it always with a smile! In a nutshell I enjoy volunteering and helping others, it keeps me connected to the community.
